The Gallery

Difficult times can open up undreamed-off opportunities. For example, the exodus of numerous fashion stores from Brienner Strasse to Maximilian Strasse following the latter’s restoration to its former cachet as Munich’s smartest street was interpreted in the local press as a sign of the presumed decline of Brienner Strasse as a fine address. Unnoticed by the public, however, the street now offers luxurious abundance to an extent seldom found elsewhere in Germany. Whether fine art shops or galleries, both established and new, or national and international home furnishings stores, cafés and restaurants, the businesses that now line Brienner Strasse with its Neoclassical mansions have one thing in common – an acknowledged discrimination of taste.
